This is my online scratchpad

The point of this space is completely private. It's my online notepad for pre-blogging on various topics.

To Do:
* Decide on new name for new blog - this is to accompany band-with-no-name and be the "real" survival advice for people wanting to begin a new band.

Rhetorical Q - What's the most important thing you need to start a new band.
Answer: NO it isn't the band...although that's right up there.
Correct answer: A Band Leader
You need someone to be in charge. A bunch of musicians together isn't a band - its a bunch of musicians together. Same as an orchestra without a conducter, yada yada yada

If you're a guy who wants a band you've got to ask yourself a couple of questions
1. How MUCH do you want to be in a band? If answer is SHRUG, go away
If answer is LOTS go to Q2
2. How much do you want to have a degree of personal/creative/ management control of what happens?
If answer is, NOT MUCH, go join someone else's band.
If answer is QUITE A LOT, go to next question.
3. Are you SURE you really want to do this?
If answer is SHRUG, go join someone else's band
If answer is YUP, go to next question.
4. Do you have any idea how har it is being a band leader?
If your answer is SHRUG, go to section 2
If your answer is NO, go to section 2
If your answer is YUP, go to next question
5. Are you SURE you know how hard this is going to be?
If your answer is UM, MAYBE, YEAH, go to Section 2
If your answer in NO, HOW HARD?, go to Section 2
If your answer is DAMMIT YES, go to the note, below.

NOTE: To you, brave and tortured BL, I offer my congratulations, my commiserations and an offer of sympathetic help. You know what an absolute pain-in-the arse it is to try to build, maintain, develop, hold-together and generally wrestle a band into gigging shape. I know how frustrating, annoying and maddening this all is, and I've put together this Guide to share the best ideas, advice, tricks and tips I've learned or gathered .
You may know some or all of this, and if so, good luck to you and maybe you'd like to contribute some ideas?
For everyone else, who hasn't a clue what they're in for, this guide....etc
